901 4th ST NW, Suite 700, Washington, D.C. 20001
The W&M Democracy Initiative invites you to join us for an interactive evening, open to the entire W&M community.
The event will include a panel, workshop session, dinner, and a book giveaway sponsored by W&M Libraries. Come practice and learn about the Better Arguments Framework with us on May 28. Attendees will have ample opportunities to practice new techniques and strategies throughout the evening!
The event will feature Democracy Initiative Co-Chairs Carrie L. Cooper Ed. D '23, dean of W&M Libraries and Ginger Ambler '88, Ph.D. '06, vice president for Student Affairs. Panelists and facilitators will include current undergraduate students, sharing their experiences with civil discourse on campus.
Event participants will:
• Hear updates on the Democracy Initiative, one of the University’s Vision 2026cornerstones.• Experience first-hand the same curriculum that all W&M students are learningthrough the Aspen Institute’s Better Arguments Project framework.• Engage with one another about what it means to have better arguments, withfacilitated small group discussions.
Civil discourse, global issues, and domestic tensions are at the top of our minds, yet these topics seem to become more challenging to engage with; this is where the Better Arguments Framework comes to light.
Heavy hors d'oeuvres and beer/wine are included with registration.
